Because neither BoardEffect nor Diligent publishes a price, a fair head-to-head cost comparison isn't possible until you've been through a sales process. For a small or mid-sized nonprofit, that's time spent before you even know whether the tool is in budget. Ask for the annual figure, the setup fee and the term length in the first email, and treat reluctance to give them as its own answer.
Enterprise portals are built for large institutions with dedicated governance teams. If that's you, they're worth the conversation. If you're a lean nonprofit whose 'board office' is one person with other jobs, a published, flat price and included minutes usually fit better than an enterprise contract.
